  Case Study: Amprobe

Description Of Work: Amprobe is a division of Fluke Electronics. They came to WMSI to build an online catalog showroom and technical documentation center for their customers world wide. The challenge was to build the proper database system that would allow them to properly document and classify the entire inventories of four unique brands into one easily navigable web site.

The client also needed a simple way to import data from their in-house computer system directly into the web site. This feature allows for the company to keep all data in the company and on the web site synchronized and up to date.

The system had to allow for tremendous growth and divide the presentation on the web site into two unique and separate versions of the same database based on the type of visitor. This qualifying of the customer based on their needs allows for a totally customized presentation of each company product flavoring the features and specs to best take advantage of knowing the type of customer viewing the site.

A global rep/distributor locator system was designed to allow for Amprobe's reps and wholesalers to submit and manage the presentation of their company's information. The web visitor has multiple search paths to find the company handling the sales and service of Amprobe's products. A zip code distance qualifier is in place so that the customer can find a rep or distributor within 100 miles of his home.

Most Current Work: WMSI was contracted to take all their existing product information data and input it into the database. The company had the product catalogs in PDF format and WMSI took this information and built the online database using that content. A complete portal for advertising and merchandising information was built to meet the needs of Amprobe's vast distribution network.

Summary: As with many companies, the company's product data is not always in the proper format for use on the web. WMSI understands this and worked with Amprobe to build up the data so that the site can launch on the target date. Amprobe also had many nuances with their data that they new they could not find an off the shelf solution for their web site needs, that is why they turned to WMSI for the solution. WMSI worked very closely with the product managers and business development personal at Amprobe to understand their business prior to beginning development of their custom solution.
